If you live in Austin, you may have noticed that Pride’s been weirdly absent the past few years, and this isn’t without reason. Thanks to COVID and its ongoing impact, Austin hadn’t held an official Pride since However, after two extended years, Austin Pride finally came back in full swing over the weekend! While there were plenty of festivals and local pride events that took place during Pride Month, AKA June, the actual City of Austin didn’t celebrate it till this past Saturday. People showed up in droves for the all-day extravaganza, which had an estimated turn-out of , attendees. 

Austin Pride’s “Beyond The Rainbow” Festival kicked off at 11 AM with back-to-back performances at Fiesta Gardens. The acts ranged from well-known celebrities and drag queens prefer Kylie Sonique Love and Babiboi, all the way to musicians like headlinerCupcakke. Who came in swinging with her opener “LGBT”, a song that became a viral sensation all over TikTok. After the festival, which ended around 7 PM, attendees flooded Congress Avenue for the official Pride Parade.

Beyond the Rainbow: Austin Pride Celebration returns Aug. 20

AUSTIN, Texas — The 30th Annual Austin Pride Festival and Parade returns on a new date after being postponed for two years.

The festival is set for Aug. 20 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Fiesta Gardens. Games, carnival rides, Drag Queen Story time, and over vendors will be featured at the event. Tickets will be $20 at the door for ages 18 and older, $10 for ages and children 6 and younger are free. Tickets can be purchased here.

Parking for the festival is limited. The community can use the parking lots located to the north on Jesse E. Segovia, or the parking lot located to the east of Fiesta Gardens. No outside food or drinks or will be permitted.

The parade kicks off at 8 p.m. on Aug. 20 at the Texas Express Capitol Building, will continue down Congress Avenue and will complete on the Ann Richards Bridge at 11 p.m. The widespread is encouraged to take part. 

The parade is free.

Where to celebrate Pride Month in Austin in

Austin celebrates Pride two months out of the year: in June during national Pride Month and in August, when the city holds its main Pride parade. That means there’s twice as many opportunities to celebrate LGBTQ+ history and identity.

Pride Flag Raising Ceremony, June 3

Travis County Judge Andy Brown will host the fifth annual pride flag raising ceremony from a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lavaca St. The free event includes vendors, artists and interaction with LGBTQ+ leaders.

UMLAUF After Dark: PRIDE, June 3

The UMLAUF Sculpture Garden + Museum near Barton Springs will hold a party with music, food, karaoke, aerial performances and an artist showcase on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission is $12 per person; you can buy tickets online or at the door.
