Gay Surf Brazil is THE LGBT+ surf camp in South America.
This annual event began in 2013 as a partnership between Brazil Ecojourneys, a LGBT-owned tour operator, and Gay Surfers, a social media platform for LGBT+ surfers that has been connecting the community and helping to combat homophobia in surfing.
Since then, we’ve brought together aspiring and experienced surfers from the LGBT+ community from around the world for a week of “surf and fun with friends”.
Our surf camp takes place at the beautiful Praia do Rosa, a beach known throughout Brazil for its natural beauty, perfect waves and rustic-chic vibe.
Gay Surf Brazil is a true immersion in the world of surfing, with surfing classes/sessions, a surf clinic with video analysis, yoga and fitness classes focused o

Artist Stephen Milner is laughing nervously as we look upon his latest creation. We’re masked up in typical pandemic fashion, standing in a hot San Diego garage that’s served as Milner’s studio this summer.
I’d imagine the nervous laughter is a regular occurrence for the 29-year-old, given the provocative nature of his work, which explores themes like queer identity and toxic masculinity in a world not known to do so—the surf world.
Between us sits a large sheet of plywood resting on a pair of sawhorses. The wood’s surface is printed with a very Instagrammable beach scene, the golden rays of a setting sun dancing off the surface of the moisture. Where the sun should be, however, Milner’s cut a circle out of the wood and replaced it with, well, a glory hole.
“I’m thinking I’ll probably write ‘locals only’ on it,” Milner says, surely smirki

Gay Surfers: Out in the Lineup
Exploring a topic that is as taboo in surfing as it is in most sports “Out in the Line-up” takes viewers for a ride along a personal journey of discovery which culminates in an epic surf trip and messages of expectation and transformation.
“OUT in the Line-up” follows David Wakefield and Thomas Castets from Byron Bay to Hawaii, California, Mexico and the Galapagos Islands as they meet and surf with people from all corners of the surfing community: from an openly gay three-time world champion, an award winning big wave rider, and former US Congressman to everyday surfers, gay and straight. Throughout their travels David and Thomas hear stories of fear, isolation and self-doubt, but are also inspired by tales of hope, self-empowerment and transformation. As their journey unfolds, David and Thomas hope to design change in surf culture, looking to the surfing’s grassroots values of freedom of spirit, open-mindedness and love for the ocean.
